RegistrationRegister a Navajo-Churro
The Navajo-Churro is a landrace breed that does not always breed true-to-type like a commercial breed. Therefore the Navajo-Churro Sheep Association maintains an open flock book. Sheep with or without a pedigree may be registered if they conform to the Breed Standards. Click here for a link to the Breed Standards. Sheep are eligible for registration at one year of age (and up). The ideal time for registration is 18 months.

Registration Forms
Single Sheep Form
Use the standard Single Sheep Registration Application and Sheep Registration Application Instructions for a single sheep that does not have two registered parents or for a sheep that you purchased from another breeder. You are not required to fill in every blank if you do not know the information. For an in-depth guide to the color data fields refer to our updated N-CSA Color & Pattern Terms and Definitions. Note where the animal was purchased if breeder is unknown. Sheep must have ear tag or tattoo for identification.
Multiple Sheep Form
You may use the Multiple Sheep Form for sheep that have two registered parents. Each sheep must have an ear tag or tattoo for identification.
Photos and Wool Samples
For each sheep your application must include two photos: 1) photo from the side showing face/horns, fleece, and legs and 2) photo of the tail (recently shorn is ideal). For rams include a photo that clearly shows the horns on both sides of the face. Also attach a wool sample (1-2 large locks) taken from the mid-side of the body. Photos and wool sample should be taken with at least 4 months fleece growth. For more on photos and wool samples refer to our photo guide.
Label photos and wool sample clearly with animal name or tag number. If you are submitting printed photos please write the animal name or tag number on the back and staple them to your registration application.
If you are submitting photos electronically please name the file with your Flock ID-Animal Name (or tag number).
Example: TOMK-12776.jpg
Flock ID: TOMK
Animal’s Tag Number: 12776
Format should be JPG, PNG or PDF. Ideal size is at least 1000 pixels in the biggest direction (either length or width) and under 500K in file size. Please keep all pictures under 1 MB file size.
On-Site Registration Inspection
On-site inspections are sometimes available if an inspector lives near you or will be traveling to your area. Please note on-site inspections are not standard procedure. Several inspectors do not perform on-sites. Inspectors for 2024 are listed at the bottom of this page.
The cost of travel/other expenses is negotiated between sheep owner and inspector. Applicants provide catch pens and restrain animals. Sheep must have ear tags or tattoos prior to inspection. Inspectors are not expected to catch, hold, or tag sheep. Registration forms (Single or Multiple) must be filled out for each sheep before inspector arrives. Individual ewe photos and wool samples are waived on-site, however a photo for each ram is still required. A flock photo representing all (or several) of your sheep is also required.
Label photos clearly per the Photos and Wool Samples instructions above. Standard registration fees apply (per head). Signed applications and fees are sent to the N-CSA Office by the owner of the sheep, not the inspector.
